Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Tue, 10 Jun 2014

Interviewed Oct 2013 in Orlando, FL(took 1 week)
Initial contact was only a day after I applied online. Interview was set up for a few days later. Was not told ahead of time that it was a group interview. Three tables were set up and the people with the most experience were seated at the front table. Interview was conducted by the manager and two other people who were not supervisors. Questions were generic for most everyone except the people at the front table who were asked specific questions about their experience. Basically a waste of time for the people seated at the back two tables.

Interview Questions
Specific questions were only asked to more experienced candidates. I was only asked generic interview questions like "Describe a time when you were loyal to an employer?"

Average Interview – Overall Neutral Experience – No – Tue, 17 Jun 2014

Interviewed May 2014(took 2 days)
Initial communication involved going to the customer service counter and asking for the person who had contacted me initially. I found it strange that the person who contacted me wouldn't be interviewing me. So, I was given directions to the break area, where I sat down with a few other interviewees. About 30 minutes later, I was interviewed by one of the managers. Very standard questions for a retail environment. It seems that unless you already have retail experience, none of the questions would apply to you, so I would suggest for those who have never worked retail, to prepare alternative answers for questions about customer service and the like. The next day, I went in for a second interview in the same location. This time, I overheard employees grumbling about work. I was interviewed by a different manager who asked many of the same questions, and was creating a tally sheet while discussing them with me. She seemed distracted during the interview.

Interview Questions
Questions range from how to deal with angry customers to express a time when you've enhanced the customer's experience.

Average Interview – Yes, and I accepted – Wed, 18 Jun 2014

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Bakersfield, CA(took a day)
It was 1 1/2 months after submitting an application before being called in for an interview. The interview was fairly basic and the interviewer was slightly disorganized but very personable. I was supposed to have a subsequent interview with the manager, but she could not be reached. 3 days later I was called and offered the position.

Interview Questions
None of the questions were difficult or unexpected. It was a relaxed interview process with a personable employee who asked questions pertaining to my ability to interact with others, my previous experiences and how it related to the position etc.. All questions seemed reasonable, relevant, and fairly basic considering the job title I was interviewing for. The only aspect that was unexpected was the necessary secondary interviewer was not in the office.

Very Easy Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Sun, 22 Jun 2014

Interviewed null -1 in Maple Grove, MN(took 2 weeks)
Well, when I went in to ask if they were hiring I spoke with the HR representative almost immediately and gave them my resume. They got back to me in a few days and set up a group interview. It was fast passed and fairly informal, and as far as I know everyone who went got hired. During the interview they did warn us of the low pay and the late hours, but nothing they said could have prepared us for the confusing last minute schedules and never knowing when we were gonna get to go after a rough closing shift.

Interview Questions
The hardest question I was asked was 'Why do you want this job?', it's obvious to anyone, I just want some money! I felt like I had to lie on the spot because, come on, its a retail job, why do you think I want it?

Group meeting. Group Q&A Session. Managers just did 99% of the talking. Were broken into teams to "find" items in the store. Very informal and unprofessional. Everyone was hired. Most didn't work out. I took it because I just needed a job, any job.

Easy Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Tue, 1 Jul 2014

Interviewed Nov 2012 in Succasunna, NJ(took 2 weeks)
I applied during the holiday season by just filling out an application that was sitting on a table in the front of the store. I handed it in at customer service and received a call within the next few weeks. I went in for a group interview, which included people for several different positions (POS, Recovery, Truck, etc) and we were all asked our names and what positions we wanted and to fill out some paperwork. And we went over store policies and some company policies and that was really it. I got a post-it note with my next shifts' hours on it, and that was basically considered my (paid) training. I started working very very soon after.

They frown upon being late. Once you arrive the first thing you do is fill out a lot of paperwork. Make sure that you know who your references are. You should have at least 2, 3 is better than 2. Know when you will be available and know your past employers.

Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Mon, 7 Jul 2014

Interviewed Jun 2014(took 1 week)
I got a voicemail from Kohl's the day after I applied online, called back as soon as I could, and of course the hiring manager wasn't working at that time. 2 days and 4 calls later and I finally got ahold of her and set up my interview. I'd been researching Kohl's interview questions on glassdoor and expected a group interview. I felt prepared to ace it. I got to the store 20 minutes early, expecting to fill out paperwork like many other applicants had mentioned. There was no paperwork. I stood around for 50 minutes waiting for my interviewer, but it was okay because I really wanted the job. Finally, my interviewer got me and brought me back to her office. I'm pretty sure I nailed every question because I recognized them all from glassdoor and had time to study them! At the end of the interview, she pulled out some paperwork and handed me a pen and asked me which department I preferred to work in, to which I responded "wherever you see fit for me." She suggested juniors and intimates. Then she said, "You're 17, right?" I can't believe I went through that whole process without realizing you have to be 17 to work at Kohl's. I'm 16 and a half. So, to make it clear for my fellow young applicants, you have to be 17 to work at Kohl's. My interviewer was confused as to how I even got through the application process, considering I honestly answered I was 16. Weird. At least I know I would have had a good chance of being hired had I been 17.
