Very Easy Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Sat, 24 Sep 2016

Interviewed Sep 2,016 in Modesto, CA (took 7 days)
It was a group interview. The interviewers were running more than half an hour behind. They made it very clear ahead of time people with little availability stood no chance and saw them belittle a potential candidate for having only prime availability they reserve for senior associates. I found that to be very unprofessional of them in the setting we were in. The interview was held by assistance store managers, one a woman in her 50s and a barely legal "adult". They said ultimately they were not the ones who would be making the hiring choices but corporate would be which I found odd. They also implied the job hinged on how the whole group preformed during the interview. Quite frankly that piece of information was infuriating and is ridiculous. Half of the people in the group interview were not dressed any where near professionally and at least two candidates clearly were not right to work their due to their inappropriate responses. They ask the same questions of every one in the group. It was a small group of only 7 people, one guy and the rest women spanning from teenager to senior citizen. The guy held up the interview a lot. He appeared nervous and on the verge of tears. I honestly felt bad for him because it was clear his nerves got the best of his as he had to ask every time to have the questions repeated to him, sometimes more than once with the same question even after just hearing it two times in a row and then he would take a very long time to answer very simple and easy questions. I wish the interviewers would have tried to ease his nerves but they seemed to enjoy watching him suffer. It was sad to see. The oldest candidate over shared way too much about why she was seeking the job and why she left her previous employment. It made the room quite tense and uncomfortable for awhile. Another candidate only talked negatively about her former work place and rudely about her past coworkers. I'm not trying to be mean in my assessment here but paint a picture as to why it is wrong Kohls only hires based off of the entire group's interview performance. It's completely unprofessional to hold a few potentially great employees to the same level as ones obviously not suitable to work there. Even more so at this Kohls as many employees currently working there are rude and do not keep in line with the company's policies.
